Poonch, Sept 13: India and Pakistan today exchanged sweets to mark Eid celebrations on the Line of Control in Poonch district. On the occasion of the 'Id-Ul-Zuha', the Army representatives of India and Pakistan exchanged sweets at Poonch-Rawalakot Crossing Point and Tattapani-Mendhar Crossing Point in Krishna Ghati Sector of Jammu and Kashmir. "The exchange of sweets is an appreciated gesture from both the countries and is a regular event on the occasions of Diwali and Eid," a defence spokesman here said He said the event is a testimony of goodwill and will certainly strengthen the efforts towards maintaining peace and tranquillity along Line of Control. Meanwhile amid tension in Jammu and Kashmir, it was bonhomie between neighbours at the Attari-Wagah border on Tuesday, as the Border Security Force (BSF) of India and Pakistan Rangers exchanged sweets on Eid-al-Adha. Rangers wing commander lieutenant colonel Bilal Ahmed and BSF commandant Sudeep represented their forces. The other troops also exchanged sweets and greetings at the joint check post (JCP), like they do on every Eid, Diwali, and the two Independence Days. Border tension in the past has forced them to skip this sweet tradition on some occasions. Flip flops On Eid 2014, October 6, Pakistan Rangers didn't offer sweets to the BSF, breaking a long tradition. On October 23, 2014, the BSF and Rangers again were at odds on Diwali. On January 26, 2014, India's Republic Day, yet again there was no exchange of greetings. On March 23, 2015, Pakistani Rangers offered sweets to the BSF all of a sudden on Pakistan Day. The BSF accepted it. On July 18, 2015, things went to bad again on Eid. On September 25, 2015, the sweet exchange resumed, finally. |
