Session begins in July, lecturer yet to be engaged
Offsite campuses of JU run dry

Jammu, Sept 13: Degrading education system in University of Jammu can be gauged from the fact that academic session in offsite campuses of the varsity begun in July, but after lapse of two months, lecturers in the campuses are yet to be engaged by the administration.
Sources said that till date the University has issued three notifications for the engagement of lecturers in which offsite campuses are not being considered.
"In the first notification, No DAA/16/3388-95, dated 05/09/2016 applications for post of lecturers were invited for Botany, Environmental Sciences, Biochemistry and Microbiology. While in the second notification No. DAA/16/3437-50, dated 07/09/2016 applications were invited by university for the post of Geology, Remote Sensing and GIS, Mathematics and Statistics", said a source and added that in third notification No. DAA/16/3550-65, dated 12/09/2016 applications for seven departments, including post of lecturer in Commerce for Kathua and Udhampur offsite campuses were invited, for rest of subjects in offsite campuses, notification is yet to be issued.
"Session has begun in offsite campuses of Bhaderwah, Udhampur, Kishtwar, Reasi, Ramnagar, Kathua and Poonch but faculty has not been engaged", sources said, adding that for the purposes, in some of campuses there are lecture bases engagement.
"According to rules, lecturers are being paid Rs 250 for each lecture and they can't deliver more than one lecture in a day", sources said, adding that due to lackadaisical approach of the JU administration, most of contractual lecturers have switched to private colleges.
"Instead of teaching on per lecture basis, a teacher preferred contract, since the University did not invite applications for the posts of contractual lecturers for its offsite campuses, most of lecturers have shifted at other places", they added.
Sources further claimed that it has become a regular feature of the University for last few years that engagements are being made months after the beginning of the session.
"What will be quality, if students are taught in hit and run method to complete syllabus", they question adding that recently two notifications for the appointment of contractual lecturers at main campus were issued by the administration.
They further alleged that step motherly treatment is being given to people of far-flung areas of Jammu division by the University administration. "These campuses were established by the government to overcome the load at main campus and provide quality education to poor people of remotest areas at the native places, but this dream is yet to be realized", they added.
