BJP does a complete U-turn on Article 370 | Appeasing seditionists | | Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 13: Gone are the days when the BJP would rake up Article 370 to arouse national sentiments across the country to garner votes. Also gone are the days when the BJP would tell the nation on December 1, 2013 from the platform of MA Stadium, Jammu, that there should be debate on Article 370 to find if it had benefited the state and its people or if it had harmed the state and its people and that it would be retained if it was proved that it had benefited the state and its people and repealed if it was proved that it had harmed the state and its people. The then Prime Ministerial candidate of the BJP Narendra Modi had made this statement during the "Lalkar Rally". The BJP has forgotten everything that it said about Article 370. It now no more talks about it. It is not on its agenda. In fact, it has given in writing to the PDP that the BJP would not mind if the state was given something that is beyond Article 370. There is no need to explain this point further as your paper Early Times had a number of times written on this aspect in these columns. Suffice to say that the BJP diluted its stand on Article 370 to seal friendship with the PDP to share power with it as a junior partner despite the fact that both the parties had equal strength in the newly elected assembly. What is important to underline at this point in time is what former BJP national president and former Human Resources Development Minister MM Joshi said about Article 370. When asked about his party's stand on Article 370, Joshi said that it was for the Kashmiri leaders to discuss the issue with the people of Kashmir. "It is for the Kashmiri leaders to tell the people of the state as to what Article 370 actually meant. It is for them to tell the people if it had benefited or not benefited the people," he said, and added that "if the people of Kashmir want New Delhi to give some thing 'solid' to them, then they have to behave and the Hurriyat leadership has to come on to the negotiating table". MM Joshi is not an ordinary BJP leader; he is BJP veteran and is considered very close to the RSS leadership. In fact, MM Joshi is considered the Sangh Parivar's frontline ideologue. That it was Joshi who explained away the party's stand on Article 370 only suggests that the BJP has completely dropped Article 370 from its agenda. Indeed, it has betrayed the nation and nationalists in Jammu and Kashmir. |
