SSB chairman directed to complete technical staff's selection in food labs | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Oct 1: The high court has directed Service Selection Board (SSB) chairman to complete the selection process of technical manpower for the two food testing laboratories of Jammu and Srinagar by October 17. "It is made clear that if selection process is not completed before the next date, SSB chairman will appear in person before the court on next date of hearing to explain his position," a high court division bench of Justice M H Attar and Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey said while hearing a suo-moto PIL. It ordered listing of the PIL in the week commencing from October 17 Managing Director of Medical Supplies Corporation apprised the court about the steps taken for procuring necessary equipments for setting up of the two food laboratories. However, the court rejected the compliance report filed by him, terming same as 'unsatisfactory'. The division bench said that it was not satisfied with the approach adopted by the MD and granted him "last opportunity" to complete the process for procuring necessary equipments for the laboratories. In case of failure, the court said, appropriate action will be taken against the officer. On June 10, the court had observed that a lot was required to be done by the government to alleviate the sufferings of the people due to food adulteration. It had ordered the government to make the two food testing laboratories functional by July 11. The court had also directed government to fast track the appointment of technical manpower as per the Food Safety and Standard Act of 2006. |
