Hot Mix Plant comes up Govt land, authorities in slumber | | | Akshay Azad
Jammu, Oct 1: Virtually turning a blind eye towards environmental related norms and playing with the health of citizens of Jammu city, the district administration has reportedly given permission to set up a hot asphalt mixing plant in Bhagwati Nagar area of the city. Sources informed Early Times that the permission to set up the mixing plant has been granted in favour of the contractor, who was awarded the contract of constructing Bikram Chowk to Gandhi Nagar flyover. "The authorities have reportedly given the permission to the contractor for making concrete items, being used for construction of flyover, for which the contractor has been paying rent to the authorities, but recently in the same area, a hot asphalt mixing plant has been set up", sources said. They further questioned the grounds on which the permission has been given. "if permission has been given to one contractor, why has it been denied to others," they questioned. They further said that the area where the plant has been set up, was very close to the residential area and it seemed total violation of environmental related norms in giving the permission to the contractor. "The contractor can easily take asphalt from other contractors. There are reports that the hot asphalt has been supplied for other works rather than flyover construction. The contractor will also need paint and if he will ask for permission of paint manufacture plant, whether authorities will permit the contractor", the contractor questioned and alleged that all norms were reportedly thrown into dustbin, while giving permission to the contractor. Regional Director of Pollution Control Board, Showqat Choudhary said that they have given the consent to the contractor to set up hot mixing plant for one year. |
