SSH Jammu battles for survival, minister busy in inaugurations | | | Early Times Report jammu, Oct 1: The inability of Minister for Health and Medical Education (H&ME) Department to handle the affairs of his ministry is clearly visible from the mess prevailing at the Super Speciality Hospital (SSH) Jammu where half of departments and machines are dysfunctional. Moreover, due to non-functional AC, the dialysis unit in the hospital is going to shut within days. When the priority of the minister should have been to make functional the vital departments and machineries at SSH Jammu, he is busy with inaugurations and has failed to streamline functioning of the hospital for last more than 20 days. "AC plants, elevators, Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD) and other machineries are dysfunctional in the SSH for last more than 20 days. The matter was taken a number of time with Principal of the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H) and its associated hospitals and the Minister. But they have completely failed to restore all services in the hospital," sources said. They further stated that due to callous attitude of the authorities concerned, the vital machineries are dysfunctional. The administrative failure to release funds in favour of contractors for the propose has made CSSD -which sterilizes equipment and other items before conducting operations- non-functional for last few years. "Due to lackadaisical approach of the authorities concerned, the patients are suffering. There's humidity inside the hospital as there is no cross ventilation," sources said and added the higher ups have spent huge amount on the building but the department has no funds for its maintenance. When contacted Medical Superintendent of SSH Jammu Dr. AD Singh said the liabilities of Annual Maintenance Contract (AMC) have been pending since 2013. "The matter has been taken with the minister and the higher officials," he said. |
