Tehsildars of border tehsils rendered immobile | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 5: With tension on LOC and International border continuing for over a week now in the wake of surgical strikes by India on terrorist camps in PoK on September 29, the tehsildars of border tehsils have not been provided with adequate facilities to deal with the problem. According to reports, the tehsildars being the Executive magistrates lack facilities to deal with any type of eventuality during border firing. Sources said one of the basic problems faced by the tehsildars especially in border belt is that they have not been provided with government vehicles and in the event of emergencies, private vehicles have to be arranged, reports said. Reports said by the time tehsildar arranges a vehicle to reach the spot, the situation can take a critical turn by that time and the administration is subjected to public wrath as the authorities fail to respond quickly. Reports added that a tehsildar is provided RS 15,000 as petrol charges but , laughably, here is no vehicle at his disposal to utilize this fuel. The tehsildars of border belt face difficulty in reaching in time to those areas to assess the losses or take on spot decisions for evacuating people to safer areas due to lack of facilities, sources said. Sources said many tehsils face shortage of buildings and are housed either in private buildings or Patwar Khanas. Some tehsils face shortage of staff as well i e naibtehsildars, girdawars and Payhwaris and in the present situation the tehsildars of border belt whose work has doubled due to displacement of people from forward areas are unable to do justice to their job due to dearth of staff. These tehsildars have to work in their respective areas as well as take the stock of the situation in makeshift camps where the people have taken refuge. But due to lack of staff the tehsildars are unable to give justice to their job.
