Will Jammu leaders follow their Ladakhi counterparts? | Empowering de-empowered Jammu | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 5: On October 3, the nation witnessed remarkable unity in Leh district of Ladakh region. The BJP and the Congress, which have their stakes in Ladakh; the NC and the PDP, which have little or no stake in the region as they have no support-base there; the people of Ladakh joined hands and put forth before the visiting Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh demand that sought separation of Ladakh from Kashmir and Union Territory status for their strategic region. They submitted a detailed memorandum on the reasons why they wanted separation from Kashmir and two of the most important reasons were security and discrimination. It was not the first occasion when the people of Leh district exhibited such a remarkable unity. They had done so in 2002 as well when the candidates of the Ladakh Buddhist Association won the assembly election unopposed as they people had decided not to field any candidate against them. So, they have a history behind them. What was significant was attitude of the local NC and the PDP leadership. District presidents of both the parties signed the memorandum and vouched for separation from Kashmir. They didn't care for their high commands; they identified themselves with the people's cause and invited action. The PDP expelled the Leh district PDP president on Tuesday, saying he violated the party line and joined forces which wanted to break the state. The NC also issued a notice to the Leh district NC president the same day and charged him with indulging in anti-party activities. They knew it that their action would invite reaction from the respective high command, but they stood their ground firmly and established their pro-Leh credentials. The people of Leh have shown the way to the people of Jammu province and its leadership and the Jammu leadership. The BJP, the Congress, the NC and the PDP leaders need to follow the Ladakhi leadership and fight for the Jammu cause. The Leh development has inspired the people of Jammu province and they would want their leaders, MPs, MLAs, MLCs and Ministers to join hand and submit to the Union Government a detailed memorandum and tell it that the people of Jammu province have suffered immense political and economic losses and that they want of 70-year-long subjugation. Will they? They should. It would be in their interest and in the in the interest of the nation.
