SKUAST-J distributes wheat seed among tribal farmers | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 15: FSR Centre (AICRP-IFS), SKUAST-J today organised one day meeting with tribal farmers of Meen Charka and Bari Khad area of Samba district, where in more than 70% population is under tribes, for implementation of the programme in integrated farming system prospective and for distribution of the inputs as per the technical programme. A cluster of more than 80 small and marginal tribal farmers have been selected under on farm participatory research programme in Farming System Perspective under TSP programme in AICRP-FSR (ICAR scheme) towards their upliftment through enhancement of annual income, livelihood and nutritional security. On this occasion, Dr. Dileep Kachroo, Chief Scientist of the Scheme and Registrar, SKUAST-Jammu informed the farmers that the FSR Centre (AICRP- IFS) had developed an Integrated Farming System Model, which needs to be adopted as it is most suitable for small and marginal farmers. The model developed by SKUAST-J is having the potential to increase farm income to 3 folds over the existing practice. Beside made it clear that the University under the leadership of Prof. P. K. Sharma, Vice Chancellor is making all efforts to improve the farm income by making the technologies available at farmers' door step. It was deliberated the importance of the programme which is based on diagnostic survey of awardee farmers. The University will help the farmers through integration of different enterprises of farming system mainly HYV of crops, Horticulture, Rearing of Poultry, Balance feeding to Animals and Water Harvesting etc. Dr. N. P. Thakur I/c FSR and Dr. A. K. Gupta Sr. Scientist I/c OFR programme of FSR also emphasized the role of improved variety, by which farmers can realise good profit by maximising the yield. |
