Upgraded in 2013, DH Samba craves for infrastructure

Jammu, Nov 15: Since the up-gradation of District Hospital (DH) Samba from Community Health Centre (CHC), the hospital still sans the basic infrastructure and manpower which was announced in 2013 by then Health Minister.
Pertinently, the health department had upgraded the CHC, Samba into District Hospital in 2013 and was set the up-gradation cast Rs 11.88 Crores then more than three years have been lapsed but the same hospital is still lacking the basic infrastructure and manpower which is to be necessary for it.
Source in the department said that the lackadaisical approach the department could be gauged from that fact that the department had started the construction of six doctors and 12 paramedical quarters and even a mortuary hall in the same years but due to step motherly being given by the department concerned to periphery hospitals, the work of these building is yet to be completed.
They further said that due to non availability of sufficient facilities in the hospital premises, the district hospital has become a referral station, adding, "However, during the announcement of up-gradation of the DH, Samba, the then Health Minister had announced that the upgraded district hospitals would reduce the burden of the premier hospital, Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu but owing to the lackadaisical approach of the both government and department concerned, the construction works of these building are lingering on, the reason best know to them", he said.
Medicos in hospital said that in papers the hospital was enjoying the District Hospital status but actually it has even not the sufficient infrastructure and manpower as it is in the Community Health Centre across the state, adding, "On one hand government had asserted to provide all the basic amenities at district level Health Hospitals for reducing the burden of GMC&H but on the other hand, the department concerned has failed to create the infrastructure such as mortuary, quarters and other amenities, announced during the up-gradation of the hospital, said medicos not to be mentioned here". He further said that due to lack of sufficient accommodation, majority of docs and hospital staff has left the hospital in the night hours and if some serious patient visits during night hours, the hospital authority has to refer the patient to GMCH Jammu, he alleged.
