Defence Minister's statement vindicates ET report | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Nov 15: Even as successive regimes in the state continue to have "issues" with the reports published by this newspaper, and miss no means of settling scores, the statement made by Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on Tuesday has vindicated Early Times report. This newspaper, in its latest edition had reported that Prime Minister, Narendra Modi's crackdown on black money has started reaping benefits in restive Kashmir as incidents of stone pelting have reduced phenomenally since the day the demonetization of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes was invoked last week. Call it fate or coincidence, the Defence Minister today spoke on similar lines. Since the demonetization of high currency notes terror funding has come down to zero and there hasn't been stone-pelting on security forces, Defence Minister said. He thanked Prime Minister for the "daring" move, which, he said, will also help clamp down on the narcotic drugs. "Earlier, there were rates: Rs 500 for stone pelting (on security forces in Kashmir) and Rs 1,000 for doing something else. PM has brought terror funding to zero," Parrikar said. "In the last few days after PM's daring move there hasn't been stone pelting on security forces. I congratulate PM for it," he said, speaking at an event organised by the BJP MLA Atul Bhatkhalkar. Talking to reporters later, Parrikar said those who sponsor terror will be affected by the demonetization. The state government often has "issues" with this newspaper. From choking the advertisements, to trying to gag this voice by sealing our office, successive regimes have been trying everything to prevail upon honest reporting by Early Times. But this newspaper continues to disseminate news with integrity.
