Awaiting Modi's 50 days' miracle | | | Waiting for 50 days' wonder which is being claimed by Prime Minister,Narendra Modi, while talking about demonetisation. Whatever miracle may happen should be treated as a miracle because of the cash crunch in the ATMs.Now the Government has a plan to introduce micro ATMs but one is doubtful about the success of the plan. The entire trading activity right from Kashmir to Kanyakumari has been affected, rather hit hard with a large number of shops having pulled down shutters. The poor and the rich are affected by demonetisation. They would not have had majority of ATMs being closed because there on is no cash. And the long ques outside the banks for changing the currency has forced thousands of people in the country to wait for another 10 to 15 days. The Government has directed mother diary booths, chemists and others to accept old notes but it did not instruct other big traders. These traders would have accepted the old notes but they are scared of the long lines of people outside the banks. If the entire trading community is hit where does the BJP get votes because the majority of traders used to be a major section of the vote bank for the BJP. If the Government claims that there is no dearth of cash in the country, where has it gone ? This is the question being asked by many who have faced one problem or the other because of demonetisation. Well it seems Modi is living in wishful dreams because he has asserted that the poor in the country are supporting his demonetisation decision, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday took on the opposition parties, especially the Congress, saying it is the corrupt who are sleepless now."After demonetisation, the poor are enjoying a sound sleep while rich are running from pillar to post to buy sleeping pills," Modi said at the BJP's Parivartan Yatra in UP, as he continued to rally public support for his move.Scoffing at opposition for blaming him for the problems being faced by the poor, the Prime Minister said he was better aware of the hardships being faced by commoners.Lashing out at opposition, he said, "Some political parties are worried after demonitisation...they used to get huge garlands of currency notes. Yes,if the demonetisation is aimed at curbing the flow of black money it is all right. But before the Government decided on demonetisation it should have made adequate preparations in the sense that no ATM in any part of the country remained cashless. By keeping banks open on saturday and sunday the gatyes of the banks are flooded with people.Let the Government rectify the mistake and stuff all ATMs with sufficient cash and put additional staff on the counters in the banks. In fact there is need for opening of additional counters so that people who come to deposit their money or exchange the old notes with new ones had no problem.Modi says let the nation give him 50 days.Well we give him another 60 days and wish the long lines outside the banks and the ATMs become thinner day in and day out.Let people develop confidence and let the revenune authorities help people, especially in the north east and in the remote villages to open accounts in the banks so that they are not faced with demonetisation problems. |
