LMD issues notice to Domino's, Pizza Hut for 'overcharging' on soft drinks | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 6: In response to some complaints, the Legal Metrology Department (LMD) today booked Domino's,Pizza Hut eateries for charging exorbitant rates on sale of soft drinks and issued notice for unfair trade practices . Manoj Prabhakar Deputy Controller Enforcement wing LMD, said that acting on the complaints of consumers for being overcharged on the sale of soft drinks, two teams of officers of Legal Metrology Department comprising Asstt Controllers Kewal Krishan and Pushakar Raj inspected different eateries of fast food in Jammu city area. 'The team checked the rates printed on the menu and verified it with bills, he said. According to Deputy Controller Enforcement Mr Prabhakar the team found that Dominos was selling Coca Cola with own marked MRP of Rs 60 for 600ml and Rs 45 for 400ml, where the same product of same company with same quantity and quality is available at much lower MRP of Rs 45 and Rs 25 respective in the market. He said even the pizzas too were sold to the consumers with non standard units like big. Medium and small, consumers are unable to know the exact weight , size or the quantity of the products. The case was registered by Inspector Pooja under relevant law for overcharging , use of non standard units . The second team found that another famed eatery Pizza Hut too indulged in the same deceptive practices, under a tie up with Pepsi Company to sell their product marked with inflated MRP. "Red bull bottle too was being sold at Rs 145 whereas same product is available in the open market at Rs 110, he said. The case was registered by inspector Kateeb and sale of such deceptive products was stopped and memo issued to the management of the companies. |
