Fissures in NC over Farooq's support to Hurriyat | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 6: Differences have surfaced in the National Conference over the statement of the party president who had said that they will support Hurriyat Conference in its 'movement'. A strong section of the party leadership feels father-son duo had with this statement crossed the 'red line' and it could prove politically costly for the party . "The open support to the Hurriyat Conference is total anti-thesis of the policies of the Central government on Kashmir especially of the BJP. The NC like other mainstream parties is to be seen with the Indian government on taking on Hurriyat . Even the PDP, which is accused of pursuing soft-separatism, has not gone to this extent. The father-son duo in their new found love for the separatism have crossed the red-line and this will prove very costly; more so when there seems to be no viable alternative to the Modi at the Centre," said a senior NC leader, wishing not to be named. Farooq Abdullah, had also said that his party will not support the 'wrong path', but clearly didn't spell it out and the message that has gone down is that NC has decided to join Hurriyat Conference and is also indirectly supporting the shut downs and instigating protests in the valley. CM Mehbooba Mufti has already hit at the NC after this statement by the Farooq Abdullah, which some believe will make the NC to do lot of explaining in the valley. The more critically hit by this statement is the NC leadership of the Jammu. It's provincial president Devinder Rana, trusted lieutenant of the father-son duo , will now be forced to give a spin to this statement of the Farooq. "Just after the 2014 state elections, Omar took credit for the fact that NC had won two seats from the heartland of the Jammu, something the PDP couldn't achieve ; But now Farooq has embarrassed the elected MLAs of the Jammu region as now this statement will be used against them. They have conveyed their concerns and political sensitivities of the Faoorq Abdullah," said a leader,. |
