Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 6: Hundreds of aspirants for the posts of Assistant Professors in Government Colleges for the posts of Political Science and Commerce subject are in dilemma over inordinate delay of Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC) to conduct interviews in Political Science and Commerce subjects. The delay is reportedly due to failure of Higher Education department to reply the queries raised by JKPSC, of considering allied subjects equivalent to the main subject or not. Sources in JKPSC informed Early Times that over one and half months back, they had sought suggestion of Higher Education department, after some students of allied subjects had requested to consider them for interviews in main subjects. "Some students with basic qualification (masters) in International Relations had requested the PSC to consider them to appear in the posts of Political Science. Moreover, some students with basic qualification in Masters in Finance and Control had requested to allow them to appear in interviews for Commerce subject. The PSC had sought suggestion of Higher Education, which had failed to reply so far, leaving PSC in confusion", sources said. Officials in Higher Education department pleading anonymity informed that after getting the communication of JKPSC, they had taken up the matter with the University of Jammu as well as University of Kashmir. "The University of Jammu had forwarded a very vague reply on considering International Relations equivalent to Political Science while as Kashmir University had so far not forwarded the reply", sources said. They further informed that though the issue to consider students of allied subjects in main subject was also taken up in the recently held meeting of State Higher Education Council (SHEC) by Vice Chancellor of a University. The VC had reportedly opined that allied subjects are advance courses, which cannot be consider as equivalent. "What was the decision taken in SHEC is still unknown but Higher Education department had also proposed to hold a meeting of Registrars of Jammu as well as Kashmir University to clear the mist over the issue of considering allied subject students with main subject but a final call is yet to be taken", sources said. A higher official of Higher Education informed that JKPSC has the prerogative to conduct interviews as per SRO-124, according to which posts and recruitment rules were forwarded by department. "The eligibility as per the recruitment rules, says that only the students having basic qualification in particular subject will be eligible for posts. According to these recruitment rules, the students having degrees in allied subjects will not be eligible for posts of Political Science or Commerce subject", the official said, adding that PSC was free to complete the recruitment process without waiting for any reply from Higher Education department. |
