Jammu, Dec. 6: State NCP paid homage to Dr B R Ambedkar on his 61st Mahaparinirvan Divas which was observed today. While speaking on the occasion in the central office of the NCP which was presided over by Former Minister Thakur Randhir Singh NCP and Chief J&K state said Dr. Ambedkar popularly also known as Babasaheb, was an Indian jurist, political leader, philosopher, anthropologist, historian, orator, economist, and editor. He was also the Chairman of the Drafting Committee of Indian Constitution. Krishan Kumar Digra Vice President and Chairman Legal cell State NCP said that Babsaheb born into a poor Mahar family, Dr Ambedkar campaigned against social discrimination, the system of Chaturvarna - the categorization of Hindu society into four varnas - and the Hindu caste system. Dr. Ambedkar was posthumously awarded the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian award, in 1990.Overcoming numerous social and financial obstacles, Dr. Ambedkar became one of the first outcastes to obtain a college education in India and also obtained Barrister degree from British University with the help of Maharaja Baroda. |
