Kupwara, Mar 22: A Special Police Officer (SPO) who was killed in an encounter with militants in Kupwara on Wednesday was not promoted even as he served the police department for around two decades. SPO Mohammad Yousuf, a resident of Kachhama village in Kupwara, is survived by aged parents, three sons and two minor daughters. He was the first matriculate of his village that is dominated by the Schedule Tribes. The police department had not given him promotions even though he served it for last 18 years. A relative of the deceased SPO said that he had joined the police department to feed his family with dignity and honor, but he remained SPO only till he was martyred. "Despite being poor he gave a good education to his children. He elder son has completed civil engineering," Yousuf's relative said. "We are living close to the Line of Control (LoC) and during the gunfights we face the burnt from either side, be it militants or security forces, as the bullet doesn't know who it may hit," he said. "Both the governments of India and Pakistan should hold talks to end this bloodbath." |
