Durbar reopens today amid tight security arrangements | | | Ishtiyaq Ahmad Early Times Report Srinagar, May 6: In view of surge in militant violence and law and order problems, tight security arrangements have been made for the reopening of the civil secretariat here in summer capital today. Sources told early times that apart from normal arrangements, this time authorities have prepared a contingency plan to maintain law and order by deploying additional forces. Sources said that additional closed-circuit television cameras have been made operational at important installations, including the secretariat, to maintain a close vigil. "We are aware about the situation in valley, so elaborate security arrangements have been made to maintain law and order," one of the top officials of the police told early times. He said that police and paramilitary personnel in strength will be deployed in sensitive areas of Srinagar including Maisuma and near schools and colleges to prevent youth and students from staging anti-government protests. Civil Secretariat, Raj Bhavan, and other move offices closed in Jammu on April 27 and are scheduled to re-open here today. The government will function in Srinagar, the summer capital of the state, till late October and then move to Jammu the winter capital in the first week of November. Sources said that security personnel will also be keeping watch on the movement of the people through CCTVs installed at different places in Srinagar. Srinagar has been given a face-lift ahead of the re-opening of the 'move offices. The roads around and leading to the Civil Secretariat, the seat of the government, were renovated with labourers busy cleaning the pathways and painting the roadsides. Every year, the city gets a face-lift on the eve of re-opening of the Civil Secretariat and other move offices. Besides, the government offices and quarters have been renovated and the street lights are being restored. Sources said that almost all the government employees associated with the Civil Secretariat and other departments has arrived in the Valley. On the reopening of offices, work will begin from 9:30 am to 5 pm at the Civil Secretariat. However, for other departments located outside the Secretariat, work will be from 10 am to 4 pm. Meanwhile sources said that Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has already reached here from Jammu. Sources said that the CM will be inspecting the guard of honour on her arrival at the civil secretariat. Most of the BJP ministers, have also reached Srinagar. The PDP ministers were already camping in the city and will be attending the first day at the civil secretariat. |
