Early Times Report

Jammu, May 6: Despite promises by the union and state government to work hard for the upliftment of economically weaker section of society by providing monetary assistance to senior citizens, widows and people with disability, over one lakh pension cases are pending in Jammu division.
As per report of Social Welfare Department, there are 114780 cases of old age, widows and people with disability pending in Jammu province till December 2017 under both Centrally-sponsored and state-sponsored schemes of National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP) and Integrated Social Security Scheme (ISSS).
"Everyday hundreds new applications are adding to the tally in the respective offices at district level to avail pension, but the department seems least bothered to clear pendency", said sources.
"The Jammu district tops the list with 29,248 cases, comprising 6905 cases under NSAP and 22,343 under ISSS. It is followed by Rajouri with 14,691 cases, Reasi with 13,777, Kathua 10767, Poonch 10182, Udhampur 8729, Ramban 8163 , Doda 7803, Kishtwar 7102. Samba has minimum pending cases of pension with 4318, says the report.
The report also reads that as under NSAP including IGNOAPS, IGNWPS, IGNDFS and NFBS, there are 50263 cases pending and district Udhampur tops the list with 7312 cases, while Samba is at the bottom with 962 cases. Similarly, under ISSS the maximum cases of pension pending are in Jammu district and minimum in Doda district.
Source said that during the budget session of assembly this year, the SWD minister announced on the floor of the house that nearly 40 thousand new cases would be covered under both Central and state sponsored schemes. But after lapse of sufficient time no official communiqué is sent to district level officers.
