Clerical strike: Govt plays game of words | Ambiguous statement after meeting with employees' leaders | | Early Times Report Jammu, May 6: The government seems to be again juggling with the words over the continual clerical strike in the state. There looks no end to the logjam as Sunday's meeting failed to break any ice. However, in a bid to cover its failure in tackling with the crises and putting lid over the strike that is hitting a common man in the state hard, the government on Sunday evening issued an ambiguous statement. There wasn't a single word understandable in the entire statement which the government issued post the meeting with the clerical leaders who have locked the government offices and are demanding removal of the pay anomalies. The statement issued by the government states that the minister concerned chaired a meeting with representatives of clerical cadre in which all their demands were discussed threadbare. As per the reports, there wasn't any clarity over what transpired during the meeting and whether the clerks have really agreed over calling off the strike or not. The statement in question issued by the minister stated that the meeting was attended by Chief Secretary B. B. Vyas, Principal Secretary Finance Naveen Choudhary, Director CODES Mohammad Rafi Andrabi and representatives of various clerical associations. It went on stating that the meeting termed the issues raised by the clerical cadre as genuine and assured that the problem shall be resolved in a time-bound manner. The meeting agreed in principle to the suggestions made by the representatives of the cadre. Now, juggling with the words, there wasn't any acceptable to what the clerks were demanding and whether the government has agreed to accept their demands. The statement issued by the government reads as follows: "The minister observed that the exact roll-out of the framework to resolve their grievances related to pay scales will be ensured within a month in which all necessary modalities will be worked out." It added that the minister remarked that although the frame-work will mean a huge financial burden on the state-exchequer, yet in the larger interest of the people and the employees, the government will resolve it, adding that the government will accord a favourable consideration to the suggestion put-forth by representatives of the clerical associations. What, meanwhile, indicates the failure of the meeting was the last para of the statement in which it was stated that the minister solicited the cooperation of the employees to resume their work immediately in order to mitigate the sufferings of the general public, to which the representatives agreed. However, so far there hasn't been any announcement made by the employees association over whether they are going to call-off the strike. The confusion prevails. |
