Forest officer punished for waging war against politician-timber Mafia nexus

Saahil Suhail Early Times Report Anantnag, Dec 22: For waging a war against timber smuggling, Forest department on Thursday removed Whistleblower Forest officer from Kuthar Range of Forest Division Anantnag apparently to appease Timber Mafia and their political masters. Mushtaq Ahmad Mir, Range Officer Kuthar was removed after a group of timber smugglers approached their political masters and complained that the officer has made it difficult for them to carry on the illegal timber smuggling, highly placed sources told Early Times. The Chief Conservator of Forests Central, S F A Gilani although hadn't mentioned any reason for his transfer but has just included his name in the list of four Forest officers who were transferred on Wednesday. Mushtaq Ahmad Mir, a gold medalist was posted in Kuthar Range just 45 days ago and during his stay in the range, Officer has recommended and prepared PSA dossier against two infamous and habitual timber smugglers.
