KISHTWAR, May 8 : Quite contrary to its mandate and responsibility Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) Department is supplying poor quality flour to the people of Kishtwar district. This is more particular with the people putting up in the rural areas of the District. At the same time as majority of the government run fair price ration shops are dry no ration was provided to the people over the last three months. As per the details, three trucks bearing registration numbers JK02AC-2362, JK02AF-7642 and JK14A-8614 loaded with 407 quintals of poor quality flour returned from government depots of rural areas after people refuse to accept the supply. Sources said that CAPD department received the consignment of flour for distribution among the people of Kishtwar from Jammu mill and instead of proper quality checking of the flour, the officials at Kishtwar dispatched the same for distribution among the general public. "Instead of destroying the rotten flour the senior officials of department are hell bent to deport the flour back to Jammu mill so that the same could be recycled and mixed with better quality flour supply to prevent the loss of mill owner which ultimately put extra burden on state exchequer," said sources. Meanwhile, the salesmen in rural areas of Kishtwar distriact continue to harass the poor people while providing them the ration at their own will and scale. In one such case Raiz Ahmed a salesman at government aided fair prize shop in Bhatpura area of Dool in Kishtwar District is harassing a poor laborer namely Mohammad Abbas and not providing him ration since last several months. Even though when salesman was approached by the Early Times few weeks ago over the issue of non delivery of ration, the salesman assured that the ration will be provided to this poor laborer, but same was not provided till date. Talking to Early Times, Mohammad Abbas said that he was poor and was also harassed by the department and denied BPL ration card to him. He said that many persons having more income than him hold BPL ration cards, while same was denied to him by the CAPD department. He said that his young son is suffering from blood cancer and cannot afford to buy ration from private shops. He urged the department to initiate action against erring salesman besides providing him the BPL Ration card. Similar reports are being were received from many parts of the district where people do not get due ration from government depots, particularly the sugar quota. The people urged the concerned minister and the government to make immediate arrangements for supply ration quota to Kishtwar district so that same could be distributed among the people at an earliest. |
