A short cut beyond vested interest!
Illegal access to Fourth Tawi Bridge
5/8/2014 11:41:26 PM
Abodh Sharma
JAMMU, May 8: Days after lethal encroachment on Fourth Tawi bridge was reported by a section of press, attributing the criminal intrusion to a group of people backed by a sitting Congress Minister, there have neither been any voices of dissent from city's social organizations, nor the political adversaries of the sitting Minister have deemed it fit to oppose the brazen act of commission that threatens lives of citizens.
Grave concerns have been raised by those using fourth Tawi bridge that the culvert of the bridge has been broken and altered by residents of certain localities most of them illegal, to carve out a short cut for themselves, risking hugely, the lives of people using the bridge.
Sources reveal that the fatal encroachment has been made by the residents of these localities on the behest of the sitting Congress Minister, who owns a palatial farm house in the vicinity. Sources in the R&B department disclose that the Minister cleverly got several developmental projects sanctioned and implemented for his personal vested interest by feigning their wide public utility.
"This entire political class only exhibits differences in public, while actually they are all one," said a former Corporator of the JMC, who did not want to be named. "Everyone knew that the projects like artificial lake, fourth bridge, beautification along the bank and several others which are being done at the cost of public exchequer are actually benefiting the Minister more than the people at large," he said making a reference to Minister's farm house. "Why the opposition parties kept mum on this rampant misuse of public money?," he questioned.
Meanwhile, Chief Engineer R&B Jammu, Hamid Sheikh, when contacted explained that had received a letter from the Department of Flood Control and Irrigation objecting to the road, though the road was part of the original plan as it provided easy access to people of 21 villages which exist downstream. "We appreciate the apprehensions of the people, but we want to assure them that the intersection shall be properly designed to provide safe access through this road once the objections of the department of FC&I are addressed" CE said.
