SHO, two others finally suspended | Police-Lawyers stalemate ends | | Early Times Report Jammu, May 8: The stalemate between lawyers and police was brought to end after Home Department took initiative and suspended three police officials deputed in Gandhi Nagar Police Station. Those suspended include SHO Gandhi Nagar Arun Jamwal, ASI Preetam Saini and a constable. Highly placed sources informed that the Home Department took the initiative after holding consultation with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah as lawyers were adamant on their demand of suspension of the cops involved in misbehaving with one of their colleagues. Earlier, a meeting in this connection was held in PWD Guest House, Gandhi Nagar , in which members of High Level Committee made efforts to reconcile both the parties, but it failed to break the ice as lawyers were adamant on their demand. After listening to both the parties, the members of committee apprised that the final call would be taken by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. Pertinent to mention here that to break the dead lock between lawyers and Jammu and Kashmir police over the alleged manhandling by SHO Gandhi Nagar with a lawyer Harshvardan Gupta which sparked protest from lawyers and intensified later, the authorities constituted four member high level committee comprising Principal Secretary Home , Suresh Kumar, Secretary Planning B R Sharma, Secretary Law Ashraf Mir and Divisional Commissioner Jammu Shantmanu. The lawyers were on strike for the last eighteen consecutive days. |
