Early Times Report
KISHTWAR, May 8: It was not only the state Government that discriminated between the people of Jammu and Srinagar on many fronts, but the central Government owned telecom agency Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) also has bias for Jammu people.
The High Speed Wireless Wimax internet Broadband service schemes introduced by the Union Telecom Ministry last year meant for rural areas of the state, but while executing the schemes the city areas of Jammu, Udhampur and Kathua districts were left out by the BSNL authorities citing guidelines issued by the Union Telecom Ministry for implementation of the internet scheme while the guidelines were put at whirl wind in Kashmir division where the service was made available in Srinagar city areas as well.
As per the details available with Early Times the Wimax service was available in majority parts of Srinagar city including Lal Chowk areas while in Jammu, the service was made available to the people living in Bhatandi area where majority of the population was illegally residing on forest land. Even senior BSNL officials during last year BSNL meeting at Kishtwar chaired by MP Lal Singh accepted that Jammu lacks Wimax internet connectivity while the same benefits eludes the people of Jammu district, but even then nothing was done on part of the BSNL officials to felicitate the services in Jammu city areas. Meanwhile, the poor BSNL Mobile, Wimax and Broadband continues to irk people of Kishtwar as the services remains suspended for most part of the day. Among the three services of BSNL, Wimax and Broadband Internet services remain mostly effected. During last 10 days Wimax service was available only 5 to 6 hours while the service remains up to mark during three weeks of election period and hardly there was any distribution during all these days, but once the elections held, the BSNL service in Kishtwar District starts frustrating its customers. "Poor BSNL services is a routine matter as a result of which many BSNL customers shifts its base to other telecom," said Shamsher Bhandari. He said that he sometimes wonders that despite having waste resources available with BSNL, the company fails to delivery on public front. Shamsher Bhandari said that BSNL officials must need to look into the issue before it becomes the waterloo for the company. He said that many a times it was very difficult to connect a call even from BSNL to BSNL network, while impossible to connect call on other telecom network. Another person Farooq Tapal said that despite installation of 3 G systems in BSNL exchange Kishtwar some 4 to 5 years ago, the telecom company fails to provide the service to its customers who are looking for the alternative options after Tata Photon windup its services from the state. He said that there is also need to probe the allegations against the Government owned Telecom Company with regard to nexus between the BSNL officials and Private telecom operators.
