`Development limited to painting walls in Srinagar
7/6/2014 11:21:22 PM
Shakeel A Khan

SRINAGAR, July 6: In the run up for assembly elections, the developmental works in Kashmir valley have been restricted to painting of walls along some roads in the Srinagar city. All the government agencies seem to have been blown to not reachable place.
There is a huge governance deficit which has taken toll on the mental health of the people as the people in power have abandoned their offices leaving the peons to look after the affairs of the state. The secretariat in the summer capital of the state has nothing to offer to the commoners.
Only political meetings take place in civil secretariat these days. The people, who come from long distances to get their problems redressed, wait there for the whole day without getting a chance to see the person at the helm of the affairs.
"The people in power seem to be driven by their own compulsions these days as our pleas go unheard. When we visit the secretariat to get our problems redressed, we are told that sahib is busy in the meeting. We are told to come on some other day," said Ashfaq Ahmad from Tangmarg while talking to Early Times.
Ashfaq went on saying that there are hundreds of people like me who visit the secretariat in anticipation that their grievances may get redressed. The people at the helm of the affairs, as per Ashfaq don't seem to be bothered by the plight of the people.
But the people who are blue eyed continue to enjoy the corridors of the power. Helpless people, men or women aren't any consideration for these power hungry people. The voices of such hundreds of people go unheard on account of the apathy of the people in power.
"I was waiting outside the room of a minister hoping that I may get a chance to see the boss. There were others like me as well. But none bothered about us. Soon some people came, possibly the blue eyed ones and were taken inside the room leaving the people like me high and dry," said Basharat Ahmad from Baramulla while talking to Early Times.
Not only this, as Basharat says, the meeting between these people lasted till the office time was over. There after the boss along with his special guests left his office without noticing such a huge number of people outside his office.
