Horticulture advertisement does not say who patronizes spurious antifungal sprays in Valley | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, July 6: If issuing a paid advertisement is any indication then the Horticulture department has woken up from its deep slumber as scab destroys most of apple crop in Budgam and other districts of the Valley. Issuing paid advertisements to the media has become another way of playing the sycophant to please the incharge ministers. More than addressing the real issue which is supposed to be highlighted the entire focus of such advertisements is to release photographs of incharge ministers to justify the non-attention by the concerned officials to the issued purportedly of public interest raised through such advertisements. For the last three months hundreds of growers have been battling the menace of scab disease in their orchards especially in Budgam district of the Valley. Experts from SKUAST-K have been regularly visiting such places to check the spread of the disease in apple orchards. Officials of the State Horticulture Department recently advised growers to spray their trees with a certain antifungal which has reportedly turned out to be spurious. Instead of ordering an inquiry into the sale and sponsoring of spurious antifungal sprays, the department has now found it convenient to hush up the entire issue through a paid advertisement to please the political boss. Instead of looking at how good the photograph looks in print the concerned minister would serve public interest by starting an inquiry to find out who patronizes sale of spurious sprays in his department. Paid advertisements are no alternative to doing one's duty with conscience and honesty. |
