Equitable development remains distant dream | Authorities have no time to consider SFC report | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, July 6: Equitable development of all the regions of the state is likely to remain a distant dream for the time being as the authorities seem in no mood to consider the State Finance Commission (SFC) report. The report was submitted in November 2010 and suggested measures for ensuring equitable development of all the regions. However, for unknown reasons, the coalition government ignored the report. The report was prepared by noted economist, Professor Nisar Ali. It is in five volumes comprising 1000 pages. Official documents reveal that the finance minister was supposed to look into the recommendations along with other ministers. It has been reliably learnt that three departments, Rural Development, Social Welfare, and Housing and Urban Development have shown interest in the report. Interestingly, the National Conference and its coalition partner have been talking about equitable development of all the regions of the state. The coalition partners have also been talking about regional disparities. The commission was mandated to suggest measures in this regard as well. |
