Police tightening noose against drug peddlers | Drug mafia changing 'modus operandi' to dodge police | | K Koushal
Jammu, July 6: The recent incident of recovery of Charas from a an ambulance at a naka in Narwal on July 2, is an indicator that drug mafia involved in the narcotics smuggling have deviated from conventional mode in smuggling of drugs in a bid to dodge Police. Police have seized one kg Charas being smuggled in an Ambulance which is usually given benefit of doubt to pass without routine checking but alert police arrested two drug smugglers in this connection. According to police sources the drug mafia and its couriers now a days have innovated and are opting to new modus oprendi to deliver drug consignments to their destinations within or outside the state. They are opting for private vehicles, ambulances and even changing their routes like instead of coming from traditional Jammu Srinagar Highway NH-1A they now occasionally opting for historic Mugal Road to dodge Police. Pertinently to mention here that Police apprehended a drug peddler on Mughal Road in Shopian and recovered 12 kgs of Charas (cannabis) powder from him on May 30 this year. Police have identified the drug smuggler as Mushtaq Ahmed Mir son of Ghulam Qadir Mir of Herpora who was arrested after police intercepted him at Herpora Bazar on the Mughal Road. An FIR no. 26/14 under Section 8/20 NDPS Act was registered against him. Not only this they are engaging more and more women in their illegal trade as women police are not deputed at every naka on Jammu Srinagar Highway or other routes and it is evident from the arrest of three narcotic smugglers including a woman on January 10 this year. Police also recovered some two- kilograms of charas from their possession in a residential house at Dobi Mohalla, Khrew in South Kashmir's Pulwama. According to reports a police party stopped a Maruti Van and after thorough search some 30 grams of Charas was recovered from its driver identified as Mohammad Altaf of Wuyan. On his disclosure, police arrested one Mohammad Lateef Shah of Dobi Mohalla, Khrew and a woman (name withheld) alongwith two-kilograms of Charas from their house. A case in FIR No 07 of 2014 under Section 8/20 of NDPS Act was registered at police station Pampore in this regard. Citing the example of recent catch made by the police with the arrest of two persons while smuggling Charas in an Ambulance bearing temporary registration number MP-11TR/A-5859 on July 2 in Narwal area, SSP Jammu Uttam Chand said that this is evident from the fact that police have tightened the noose against the drug mafia following which persons involved in the business are trying to dodge the police. The two accused have been identified as driver of the said vehicle Sukhdev Singh son of Raghubir Singh and his accomplice Dalip Singh Gali, Gardawali, Teh Dasua Distt Hoshiarpur Punjab. He however added that police is tightening its noose against the drug smugglers to weed out the evil from social set up which is resulting into the petty crimes by the addicts. |
