Samba, July 6: Member legislative assembly (MLA) Vijaypur and former minister, Surjeet Singh Slathia on Sunday visited the shrine of Baba Sidh Goria at Swankha to pay obeisance on the eve of Baba Sidh Goria mela, the seven day event which commenced from Sunday. The MLA was accompanied by the Deputy Commissioner Samba, R K Verma, and other concerned district officers. During the mela, MLA interacted with the Mahant Girdhari Lal and inquired about the arrangements made by the district administration to facilitate the visiting devotees. He was apprised by the Mahant about the facilities made available to the devotees during the mela. Mahant Girdhari Lal said that it is popularly known that the shrine that of Baba Sidh Goria Nath ji, a follower of Gorakh Nath. The water of the holy Sarovar (pond) is considered as pious as Ganga Jal and is believed to have curative properties. The district administration has made adequate arrangements for the seven day Baba Sidh Goria mela so that more and more devotees from within and outside the state visit the place. A large number of devotees participated in the fair and took bath in revered pond.Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Sheep husbandry, Hanloom, Handicrafts, Tourism, Health, drug and food control, DIC, Sericulture, Employment, Social welfare and other departments have installed their stalls on the occasion to make people aware about the schemes being implemented by them. While addressing, Surjeet Singh Slathia, said that the Baba Sidh Goria shrine has great significance among devotees and people from state as well as from other parts of country. |
