Srinagar, July 6: Pradesh Congress is fraught with the danger of dissidence from its leadership as Sonia Gandhi and Omar Abdullah deliberate over a possible pre poll alliance yet again in New Delhi.
According to sources within state Congress as secret deliberations between NC and Congress have once again begun at many levels to form pre-poll alliance for upcoming Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, senior Congress leaders are all set to oppose any such move and many top leaders are likely to revolt against the party if not taken into confidence.
Sources said that Omar Abdullah has been called to New Delhi and a meeting between him and Sonia Gandhi was expected to be held today in connection with possible NC-congress Pre-poll alliance for upcoming Assembly elections.
Sources said that meeting was called after former Union Health Minister and senior Congress leader, Ghulam Nabi Azad visited Kashmir and sought details from Congress colleagues about the political scenario of Kashmir; besides he himself met former Chief Minister and patron of People's Democratic Party Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and discussed various issues with him in connection with upcoming Assembly elections.
Sources added that state Congress leadership which is opposing pre-poll alliance with NC for Assembly elections has also been called to New Delhi to know their perspective for entering into alliance with the NC.
"Almost all senior Congress leaders who often feel helplessness before any decision of party high command have, however, this time already indicated to revolt and have informed party high command that party must contest the polls on its own and win atleast handful of seats in Jammu and Kashmir to remain alive in Kashmir politics, "sources said.
Sources said that contrary to the wishes of Kashmir Congress, Congress leaders of Jammu division this time suggested to go for a pre-poll alliance with NC so that maximum numbers are achieved in the upcoming Assembly elections and possible BJP wave could be tackled in the region.
Sources said that as Jammu Congress camp is worried over the increasing strength of the BJP in Jammu region, camp is now keenly looking for the alternatives to regain control over its lost ground in the area.
Pertinently PDP has so far denied state Congress leaders in their routine meeting with PDP patron to enter into pre-poll alliance Congress and though party has decided to contest the polls on its own, however, has kept post alliance alive with Congress.
As speculations were swinging few days back that NC may form pre-poll alliance with BJP, however cold shoulder from BJP leadership to NC's wish according to sources has ignited both NC patron Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah to reach Delhi again and use their contacts and form pre-poll alliance with Congress to counter PDP wave in Kashmir and tackle BJP in Jammu division.
