Jammu, July 6: Despite the merger of Institute of Music and Fine Arts (IMFA) into the University of Jammu, the students of the institute have remained children of the lesser God as there is no end to discrimination meted out to them by the JU authorities.
JU authorities have hired a portion of private building of Luthra College to run classes of IMFA and have not started renovation of the IMFA building which was declared unsafe. The move is not only pinching the JU exchequer, it is also causing inconvenience to the IMFA students who seek immediate repairs of their building and shifting of the institute back into it.
Sources in IMFA rued that the authorities had shifted the institute first to Tawish College, Channi Himmat and later to Luthra College where it is running presently and have been paying exorbitant rent to these private colleges.
One of the student when contacted by the Early Times expressed her tale of woes. "We have been harassed by the university authorities by shifting from one place to the other and moreover the original building of IMFA is better for us and is a sort of inspiration to the fine arts students being a heritage building, "said a student.
Sources also claimed that the University authorities are spending huge funds in rent given to the Luthra College against the rented building even as there is ample accommodation owned by the JU which can be allocated to IMFA till such time its own building is repaired and renovated.
"GDC Paloura is also a migrant college and is running on sharing basis with BBA/BCA/M.Com wing in the Premises formely owned by the Government College of Engineering and technology which is shifted to Kot Bhalwal," an informed sources divulged.
Pertinently, the sources also claimed that one wing of the premises is totally vacant except the ground floor which is utilized by the Jammu and Kashmir Bank along with the Post Office, but rest of the same building is vacant, but the authorities are running the IMFA in a rented building for clandestine reasons.
VC Jammu University Prof. MPS Isher avoided calls when contacted for comment.
