Love him or hate him | Omar is Chief Ministerial candidate of NC | | Shakeel A Khan
SRINAGAR, Aug 27: Omar Abdullah is trying hard to project himself as the key player after the defeat of the National Conference in the Parliamentary elections. Whether Doctor Farooq Abdullah has decided on his own to say good bye to the politics or he has been forced to do so cannot be authenticated at this point of time. Come what the reality may be, Omar Abdullah seems to be the self styled chief ministerial candidate of the NC much to the dislike of the seniors of the party. But if the people close to the party are to be believed, it is the political immaturity of Omar Abdullah which has done irreparable damage to the party and he is not enjoying that command and respect which he used to enjoy when he made his political debut. Omar Abdullah is missing that dominant character which his ancestors displayed during their political career and because of that fact the image of the National Conference has been ruined. "Omar Abdullah caused fissures within the party because he remained in association with a handful of the people of his choice ignoring about the larger interests of the party. The problems that the party confronted came to fore once the party tasted the shameful defeat in the parliamentary elections which were conducted just recently," said Mushtaq Ahmad from Srinagar while sharing his ideas with the Early Times. The defeat in the parliamentary elections has triggered the leadership crisis in the party. So much is the leadership of the party upset that Dr. Farooq Abdullah is more visible in London than in the Kashmir Valley. The senior Abdullah is so much shocked and apprehensive that has decided not to contest the upcoming assembly elections even from Sonawar, which was until very recently considered the bastion of the national Conference. "Omar Abdullah seems to be more concerned about the family rule which is likely to come to an end. He is less concerned about the defeat in the recently held parliamentary elections or what is going to happen to the party in the coming assembly elections. The kind of situation which Omar Abdullah is facing these days hasn't been faced by any of the leaders from the Sheikh dynasty," said Syed Hafizullah, a staunch supporter of the National Conference from Budgam. Hafeez believes that Omar has got no popularity as the leader of the party nor is he capable of uniting the party supporters across the state which used to be the talent of his grandfather. Farooq Abdullah, as Hafeez believes, succeeded to great extent in running the party effectively. Hafeez concluded by saying that politically, Omar Abdullah has proved to be a flop show. |
