CM, Speaker, MoS Home on the same page | Is Raj Bhawan monitoring? | | Neha Jammu, Aug 27: People of the state in general and Jammu province in particular, who live near the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border, have been suffering at the hands of Pakistani barbarians, who have been resorting to unprovoked firing on an unprecedented scale, particularly since January this year. Till date, the Pakistani barbarians have violated ceasefire more than 100 times and the Pakistani bombing and shelling have affected more than 5000 families, all in Jammu province, and culminated in the killing of our brave soldiers, BSF personnel and innocent civilians, including men, women and children. A minimum of four villages have been vacated by the poor and under-attack-from-Pakistan villagers to save their lives and they are living in make-shift tents, bunkers and so on in a highly pathetic environment. Unfortunately, atleast three NC leaders, who hold constitutional positions, including the position of Chief Minister, Speaker and Minister of State for Home, have conducted themselves in a manner that has not enhanced the people's confidence in them. The reason is that they instead of condemning Pakistan in downright language and holding it responsible for the reign of senseless brutalities on the unarmed poor civilians Islamabad has unleashed, they have virtually supported the Pakistani stand on J&K. While the Chief Minister has said that the cancellation of talks with Pakistan following the meeting between Pakistani High Commissioner to India, Abdul Basit, and Hurriyat leader, Shabir Ahmad Shah on August 18 at New Delhi resulted in ceasefire violations, the Speaker of the Assembly has said on the floor of the Assembly that the border skirmishes would continue till Kashmir issue is resolved. "Ceasefire violations (by Pakistan) have been going on and they will continue till Kashmir issue is resolved," he said after the National Panthers Party (NPP) legislator Balwant Singh Mankotia raised the issue of recent shelling by Pakistani troops in Jammu, soon after the House met at Srinagar on Monday-the first day of the last session of the present Assembly. The MoS, whose duty it is to secure the life of the people, also took the line the Chief Minister and the Speaker took in the Legislative Assembly. He said things would not improve until the burning issue is resolved. "Instead of making political statements for political purpose, they (BJP) should talk to the Centre Government to take immediate necessary measures for addressing this burning issue," he said on Monday while coming to the rescue of the Chief Minister. By burning issue, he meant communal issue in Kashmir. It is a matter of regret that those holding constitutional positions are not discharging their obligations towards the people and the state. Is the Governor of the state monitoring the situation and telling the CM, the Speaker and the MoS Home that their conduct has only added more fuel to the file? Is he also telling the President of India that the constitutional machinery in the state has broken down as the CM, the Speaker and the MoS Home have been subverting the constitution and the polity? If yes, fine, and if not, why not? |
