Jammu, Aug 27: Contrary to tall claims of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who had boosted improved health care facilities across the state, the Community Health Centre (CHC) Thathri of district Doda, has exposed them as all the six specialist doctors' posts are vacant in CHC since last many years. Sources informed Early Times that CHC Thathri had six sanctioned strength of specialist doctors but after 25 years of its establishment, till date not a single specialist doctor was appointed. Moreover, against the sanctioned strength of eight Assistant Surgeons, only six are available, sources said. A social activist of Thathri, Mohammad Ashraf said that CHC Thathri was catering several thousand souls of 31 Panchayats of tehsil Thathri and more than 10 other Panchayats of neighbouring teshils including Doda and Kishtwar, but astoundingly that state government has turned a Nelson eye towards the issue. A resident of Thathri¸ Abdul Razaq said that most of the populations belonging to said Panchayats was living in far flung areas and have to cover a foot journey of more than 15 miles to reach CHC for their treatment but due to lack of manpower (specialists), they had to go for district hospital Doda or Kishtwar, which was very far. "Majority of people in these Panchayats are poor and always have paucity of money even to purchase few medicines. Whenever they are referred by CHC, they returned back to their homes", he rued, adding that the health care of these population was on God's mercy. The six vacant posts of specialist doctors included Gynecology, Paediatrics, Obstetrics, Eye specialist, Anaethetist, Ortho. "Many times we urged District Development Commissioner and concerned Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) to fill the sanctioned posts of specialists and other staff but expect assurance, we got nothing", he said. Mohammad Iqbal said that recently Chief Minister Omar Abdullah inaugurated CHC at Channapora, Kashmir and during his speech he had blamed PDP don't see dozens of new hospitals and improvement of health care facilities across state. "We want to ask CM, where is improvement in health care facilities, as majority of doctors' post in far flung areas are vacant and government is least bothered", he said. When contacted Block Medical Officer Dr. Gansham, accepted the fact and said that all the equipments were available in CHC Thathri but lack of manpower especially the specialist doctors, the people of far flung areas have been suffering badly. He further said that other two posts of Assistant Surgeon were also vacant but they have been making all efforts to meet the need of patients. |
