Rs 2.97 Cr fine realized in Jammu district | 191796 vehicles challaned | | Bivek Mathur
Jammu, Aug 27: Traffic violations are on rise in Jammu district as during the year 2013-14, 191796 vehicles have been challaned by Traffic Deptt City Jammu and a fine (Compound money) of Rs. 2.97 crore has been realized from them. In addition, towing charges of Rs. 32 lakhs (for wrong parking) and court fine of Rs. 47 lakhs have been realized by the Courts on Traffic challans. The information was provided in reply to a calling attention notice moved by Member Legislative Assembly (MLA) Prof Chaman Lal Gupta during the proceedings of State Legislative Assembly's autumn session currently going on in summer capital of the state by the concerned Minister Choudhary Ramzan. It was informed in the House that during the current year (up to June 2014), 1, 05,010 violators have been challaned in Traffic Deptt City Jammu thereby realizing a fine (Compound money) of Rs. 1.57 crores. Besides, towing charge of Rs. 10 lakhs- (for wrong parking) and court fine of Rs. 33 lakhs has been realized by the courts on the traffic challans during the same period. He said during 2013, 9814 violators have been challaned for Traffic violations in the city. It was also informed to the house that near about 30 to 40 thousand vehicles are registered in the Jammu district annually and to decongest the traffic, an Inter-State Bus Terminal has been set up at Transport Nagar and Bus Stand at Khanpur has been operationalized. The house was informed that Traffic Police Department has launched website (www.jktrafficpolice.nic.in) as well as page on the social networking site Face book to reach out to the people. The website will enable the people to register and paste their grievances on the website of the department as well as social networking site Facebook for a remedy within a stipulated time period. |
