PDP workers seize transformer in Avoora | `It was brought by NC supporters to woo voters' | | Syed Tahir Bukhari
Early Times Report
KUPWARA, Nov 16: Peer Mohallah in Avoora village of Kupwara district in North Kashmir has 250 KV transformers for 45 consumers; it is because they are National Conference supporters. We are facing major power crisis as transformer of our area failed three times in twenty five days in past, NC supporters had made it clear to them that they would be deprived of efficient power supply as long as they remain aloof from supporting the party, locals said. According to local residents of Avoora, opposition Peoples Democratic Party workers seized a community electricity transformer alleging that it was brought by National Conference leader to lure electorate in violation of poll rules. The transformer was spotted by PDP's candidate Fayaz Ahmad Mir on a load-carrier and ultimately seized near Alchizab in North Kashmir Kupwara district, locals said. In past we were ignored by National conference in all respects. But we fail to understand that why they are playing politics with us, our village has been divided in many political groups, but at the end of the day we become the sufferers, local resident Nisar Ahmad said. Early Times have learnt from sources that the transformer was bought by Mir Saifullah (Minister of Law and Parliamentary Affairs) for Awoora which is clear violation of rules. Sources said that hundreds of PDP workers hit the streets and protested against what they termed "misuse" of official machinery by the National Conference. "The protesting PDP workers declined to handover the transformer to the police and as per them it will be done before the local election officer, sources maintained. A PDP supporter Aijaz Ahmad said that we have taken up the matter with the PDP candidate Fayaz Ahmad Mir, according to him, Mir has assured them that they will hand over the electricity transformer to the District Election Officer only and will demand a strict action for brazen violation of model code of conduct by those in power presently. Meanwhile a local Abdul Hamid Khan alleges that, "The currently installed 63 KV transformer often fails thus plunging three localities comprising of 42 households into darkness. We are facing discrimination on electricity front. However Early Times contacted senior official of PDD in Kupwara district, who said that around 50 transformers of different areas of Kupwara district are presently lying in electrical workshop for repairing. |
