Would Jitendra Rana order probe against his brother? | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 16: Riding high on Modi wave the BJP is all set to nominate Minister of State in Prime Minister’s Office Dr Jitendra Singh, who defeated former Union Minister and Congress stalwart Ghulam Nabi Azad in the recent Parliamentary elections from Doda-Udhampur constituency. There is every possibility of BJP emerging as a single largest party at least in the Jammu region and it entering into an alliance with a few Kashmir based parties to form the next government in Jammu and Kashmir. If Dr Jitendra Singh becomes the Chief Minister he would have to take tough call as his brother Devender Singh Rana is a close aide of the incumbent Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. The BJP has been claiming that if it comes into power it would probe the alleged custodial killing of the NC worker Haji Mohammad Yusuf. Pertinently, when Haji Yusuf’s case was probed Police had also questioned Devender Rana, who was believed to have been present when Haji Yusuf was summoned by the Chief Minister to his Srinagar residence. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah got a clean chit in the much publicized case when retired judge of the Supreme Court, H S Bedi, submitted the report of a one-man commission of inquiry to the State government. Yusuf’s controversial death, during his questioning at the Chief Minister’s residential office on September 29, 2011, had led to a storm in the mainstream political camp as his family members and several opposition parties leveled allegations of “custodial killing” against the Chief Minister and his confidantes. If Dr Jitendra Singh gets elevated to the top post would he be able to keep up his party’s promise to reopen the Haji Yusuf’s death case and order a probe against Omar and his close aides, including Devender Singh Rana, who happens to be the brother of BJP’s Chief Ministerial candidate. |
