Perverted Ansari sides with anti-national Masarat Alam | Enemies within | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Mar 11: Who is Masarat Alam? Alam, 44, is the chairman of the Jammu & Kashmir Muslim League (JKML) and the general secretary of All Parties Hurriyat Conference which is headed by Syed Ali Shah Geelani. Alam is considered to be Geelani's confidant and one of his prime successors. He had worked from behind the curtain in mobilizing people for protests, issuing "calendars" for the hartals, and heading young stone-pelters. He attracted the attention of the Kashmiri security personnel in between the 2008 uprising and 2010 riots in which at least 112 people had died and over 500 were injured. During the 2010 unrest, Alam, a pro-Pakistan separatist, had made several provocative speeches and coined slogans such as "Go India, Go Back" and "Quit Kashmir", while fighting for independent Kashmir. After his presence became quite evident during these two years that the police arrested Alam who was then sentenced to a 10-year jail term. As many as six policemen were promoted when Alam was arrested in Oct 2010. Rs 10 lakh cash reward was distributed among cops and informers who had worked in the mission of nabbing Alam. Alam faces several pending cases which included those registered under section 120 and 121 of Ranbir Penal Code (waging war against the country) and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. However, following the orders of the newly-elected Chief Minister of J&K Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, Alam was freed from the Baramulla District Jail on March 7, after serving just four and a half years. How did Alam even landed into jail, how a science graduate entered into militancy and joined a war against India? Alam belonged to a well-established middle-class family and was enrolled in Tyndale Biscoe for his schooling. Alam's father died when he was just 10 years old, after which he along with his mother and sister shifted with his grandparents, according to an earlier Tehelka report. After completing his graduation from Srinagar's Sri Pratap College in Science, Alam joined the separatist movement in 1987, when he was just 16. He participated in rallies of the Muslim United Front, an amalgam of separatist parties, which contested the 1987 Jammu & Kashmir Assembly elections in Jammu & Kashmir. In the early 1990s, Alam entered militancy and joined Hezbollah militant group as a commander, committing himself to the fight for Kashmir's freedom from India. Unfortunately, there are perverted Indians like former interlocutor for Jammu & Kashmir MM Ansari who have defended the release of Alam and accused the Congress and BJP of politicizing the issue. "In my view, Alam has ended his detention but both the national parties - Congress and BJP - are playing up the issue for catering to their constituencies in the rest of the country…If Congress was so serious about his detention, they could have brought charge-sheet against him for any illegal activity for four and a half years…Public Safety Act was misused to the extent that he (Alam) remained in preventive detention for four and a half years…The two parties were making Alam a scapegoat for addressing their constituencies in India," he has said while taking on those who denounced the release of Alam, saying his release constituted a threat to the national security. Significantly, he has not uttered a word against the NC working president Omar Abdullah, who defended the stand of his government on Alam. Omar had said that he stood by his decision on keeping Alam in detention and asserted that things improved in the Valley after Alam was arrested. "Yes, my Govt detained Masarat Alam & we kept him out of circulation. Detention isn't ideal but difficult situations have to be tackled. Alam was the chief architect of the 2010 protests. It's not a coincidence that the protests died out after his hard won detention," he said on March 7, the day Alam was released. The problem of New Delhi in Kashmir is not the presence of a handful of extremists and separatists; its problem is the well-entrenched persons like Ansari who side with such seditionists as Alam. They are so perverted that they do not take an exception to what Alam said after his release in a hush hush manner. |
