10 months on, barring Baig, other five MPs fail to sanction MPLADS funds | | | Akshay Azad Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 11: Except one Member Parliament of 16th Lok Sabha from Jammu and Kashmir, all other five newly elected MPs of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) have failed to even recommend funds available under Member Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS). According to the recent data available for this financial year 2014-15, a total of Rs. 15 Crores was released by Government of India out of total Rs. 30 Crores for this financial year under MPLADS, to six Member Parliaments. The amount was meant for carrying out developmental works by these newly elected MPs in their respective constituencies. A total of Rs. 15 Crores, comprising Rs. 2.50 Crores each was released for six MPs including Mehbooba Mufti from Anantnag Lok Sabha seat, Muzaffar Hussain Baig from Baramulla, Jugal Kishore from Jammu-Poonch, Thupstan Chhewang from Ladakh, Tariq Hameed Karra from Srinagar and Dr Jitendra Singh from Udhampur. Except Muzaffar Hussain Baig of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who has sanctioned and recommended Rs. 2.31 Crore funds in his constituency, out of which Rs. 1.57 Crores has already been incurred and Rs. 93 Lakhs was unspent, remaining five MPs have failed to recommend, sanction even a single penny from Rs. 2.50 Crores MPLADS funds available for their constituency and total amount was unspent, the data further revealed. The Union Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation had also circulated detailed guidelines on the scheme to the Members of Parliament for their knowledge as well as strict adherence. "A meeting was also convened by Union Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation on February 23, given the slow utilization of funds but so far nothing has been changed, after one fortnight of the meeting", sources said. |
