Er Rashid to use Guru's ghost to unsettle PDP-BJP apple-cart once again | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 11: The independent MLA Engineer Abdul Rashid is making another attempt to further strain the relations between the BJP and PDP. Engineer Rashid has decided to bring in private Members resolution to bring back the mortal remains of the Afzal Guru, hanged after being convicted in the Parliament attack. Rashid has been making it a political issue with an eye on the vote bank. He had attempted the same in the last session when Omar Abdulalh headed the government. However, this time he has made the use of it to gain political mileage by making both the Congress and PDP to admit that it was biggest mistake for securing his crucial vote in the Rajya Sabha and Legislative Council elections. The Congress had admitted that it was a mistake and PDP legislators had in a joint memorandum on the day of the MLC elections had repeated the same. Rashid has thus with his master act brought both the PDP and Congress on the same platform and pitted them jointly against the BJP. A resolution if supported by the these two parties would put the BJP in a tight spot as it doesn't have a numerical strength as it could well be supported by the National Conference, which has 28 members. "The coming together of all three parties would make the position of BJP very difficult and if the PDP decided to support it, even its legislators, then it could strain the relations as these have already been strained," said a senior BJP leader. The BJP in such an eventuality would find it very difficult to remain in the government and this would also become embarrassment for the Mufti Sayeed. "It all now depends on how Mufti Sayeed handles the situation and also the role of the Speaker. The BJP would not allow any more embarrassment for it and the onus now lies on the mufti Sayeed," said the leader. |
