Lakhanpur-Basohli road, a victim of official negligence 3/11/2015 10:55:45 PM Arun Trisal Early Times Report Kathua, Mar.11: 90 Km road from Lakhanpur to Basohli especially Lakhanpur to Basantpur, has been badly affected due to negligence of Public Works Department, PWD that unites district Kathua with Kishtwar, Himachal Pardesh and Punjab. Astonishingly 25 Lacs have been utilized for 5 Km road from Lakhanpur to Basantpur but ground reports narrate a different story. Department superficially filled pits with concrete material that washes out after each rain. A large number of villagers have been suffering for long but the department superficially fills pits with temporary material and boasts of development in the area. The matter has been highlighted several times before concerned authority but it seems that none care about the suffering of commuters and vehicles that frequently used the road. Balwan Singh, a local, today informed the media about the condition of the road which gets filled with rain water and turns dusty during dry day that affected the commuters. He said the matter has been come into the notice of PWD officers but nothing has been done till date. While cursing PWD, Singh said despite being a cantonment area no permanent solution has been found out by the government. He said Union government send huge amount for construction or renovation of road but department impediments to renovate the road. Vishal Kumar, a commuter, said they could not reach their destination on time due to bad road connectivity and said the department should take serious step to facilitate the public. He appealed J&K government to intervene the matter for early redress of their grievances and sought black topping on the road that would bring Good Days for people who frequently use the road. When contacte Er KS Nathyal, Xen PWD, (Civil), said department has recently filled the pits and many other construction works are ongoing on along the 90 Km long road from Lakhanpur to Basohli. He said that a tender has been approved for 3 km road and the department has received Rs 5 lacs for black topping of 3 Km road at different sites, 5 lacs still to come from higher authority. Nathyal ensured to enhance the road connectivity in days to come subject to base on proper funding from State Secretary PWD.
