JAMMU, Mar 11: Winning their respective matches, Namdhari XI, New Gurdaspur Club and Corps of Signals Jalandhar today qualified for the quarterfinals round of the ongoing IV All India Police Martyrs' Hockey Tournament at KK Hakhu Stadium here under the banner of J&K Police. Four other teams have already been placed in the quarterfinals considering their standings in the previous edition of the event. These are Border Security Force (BSF), Punjab and Sindh Bank, J&K Police and Punjab Police. Now, in the quarterfinals, scheduled for tomorrow, Indian Air Force shall be playing against BSF at 9 am, followed by the match between Punjab and Singh Bank and Namdhari XI at 11 am. In other last eight stages matches, J&K Police shall take on New Gurdaspur Club at 2 pm and Punjab Police shall face Corps of Signals at 4 pm. Earlier, Corps of Signals registered a comfortable 4-1 win against fighting Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) side. Though the first goal was scored by CISF in the 18th minute through Cyril Ekka, yet they could not consolidate and allowed their opponents to take an invincible 3-1 lead at the end of the first half play. Joshanpal remained star striker, who netted the ball twice in the 21st and 35th minute to be named man of the match. Rajneesh Kumar (23rd) and S Kaitha (54th) were other scores. In another scheduled match, Namdhari XI registered a humiliating 9-0 defeat on J&K XI. Inderpal Singh (5th ,15th), Udhampreet Singh (43rd,7th), Avtar Singh (22nd, 60th) and Gurcharan Singh (57th, 62nd) added two goals each while Jaswant Singh (61st) netted other goal. For his brilliant game, Inderpal named man of the match and presented with Rs 4,000 cheque by general secretary of Hockey J&K, Romal Singh. Gurdarspur Club won their game against Dogra XI beating latter 6-4. Earlier, the game ended in a 2-2 draw forcing the organisers to decide the fate of the match via tie-breaker wherein Gurdaspur Club emerged victorious. Gurdaspur XI goal-keeper was declared man of the match and handed over Rs 4000 prize money by Inspector General of Police IRP, Jammu, Joginder Koul. |
