Seven students of BGSBU injured in police baton charge

rajouri, Mar 11: About six students and a faculty member of Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) sustained minor injuries when a police party lead by Deputy SP, HQs and SHO resorted to mild lathi charge to disperse the students, who have blocked main Rajouri-Jammu road at near Panja chowk.
Manchand Singh ABVP leader, Mukhtar Ahmed Choudhry, district president Gujjar & Bakerwal student union , Choudhry Imran, block president YCI (all students of BGSBU) who were leading the protest demonstration said that the student were holding protest demonstration peacefully in favor of their demands that include repairs of university road, excess fare and overloading by the private operators.
"As the 8 kilometer road from Rajouri city to BGSBU is in worst condtion the transporters plying very less vehicles on this road resulting in overloading and delay in reaching the university in time. Many a times, students miss their classes despite overcharging of fare by those who operate Mini buses" said Manchan Singh.
He added that for the last several months the matter has been brought into the notice of concerned officials including of PWD and Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) but they didn't take note to mitigate our problems.
"It is very difficult to ply the small four wheeler vehicles and motorcycles on this road at present as most of the road have pot holes filled with filthy water. We were holding peaceful demonstration, which is our fundamental right, but the police used force on the students which is condemnable" said Mukhtar Ahmed.
As hundreds of vehicles got stranded on both the sides of the road police used mild lathi charge to disperse the students in which students including Assistant Prof Vishal Sharma were injured.
As the matter reached university about 150 students left to join their colleagues but were stopped by the police near PWD Dak Bunglow.
Ch Hamid,DSP, HQs, inspector Randeep Bhasin from MVD, Ch Qamar Hussain, MLA Rajouri and other senior officers also reached at Dak Bunglow to discuss the matter with student leaders.
After a threadbare discussion of about 3 hours it was declared by the MLA that the repair work on this road will be started within 7 days and DSP, HQs will ensure that no extra fare will be charged from the students and also to ensure no overloading on the vehicles.
Meanwhile Vibodh Gupta MLC has condemned the lathi charge on the students who were protesting peacefully and made responsible district administration that failed to check overloading, excess fare and to repair the road that leads to BGSBU and is in worst condition.
