Bhardwaj demands relief for 'hailstorm' affected farmers | | | Early Times Report
Bishnah, Mar 11: Senior Congress leader M K Bhardwaj has demanded immediate relief for the farmers of Bishnah in particular and that of entire Jammu region whose crops have been destroyed in the recent hail-storm and unprecedented heavy rains that have been lashing the region. Chairing a meeting of Congress leaders and workers from Bishnah Constituency, he has suggested that the state government should adopt a two-pronged approach to alleviate the sufferings of the farmers. Bhardwaj also drew the state administration's attention to the poor condition of the irrigation canal network running through Bishnah. Questioning the newly formed BJP-PDP Government's claim to immediately undertake development activities, Bhardwaj said that the ruling alliance partners are indulging in worst kind of political fight even before settling down which has caused serious consternation among the people who had voted them to power. Bhardwaj has threatened direct action by the farmers if immediate succor is not provided to them. Congress leader Ashok Kumar Dubey in his address said that the irrigation network is the lifeline of the agriculture sector and the government should take immediate measures to clean and protect the existing irrigation network. Among others present in this meeting included Kuldep Sharma, Suneel Sharma, Sham Singh, Ghansham Sharma, Dewan Chand, Bal Krishan, Ranjit Singh and Ramandeep Singh. |
