SRINAGAR, Apr 6: Shortage of IAS officers is likely to have an adverse effect on governance. The shortage is created by deputation of JK cadre officers to various states across India. Reliable sources said the state is short of 37 officers. This, however, does not include the 19 officers who are on central deputation. They include Ashok Angurana, K B Aggarwal, Pramod Jain, Lokesh Dutt Jha, Sudhanshu Panday, Arun Mehta, R K Goyal, Dheeraj Gupta, Naveen Choudhary, M K Dwivedi, Hridesh Kumar, Mandeep Kaur, Pandurang Pole, M Raju and Shyam Vinod Meena. The governance will suffer a lot if government of India does not relieve the 19 officers from central deputation. In such an eventuality the state will have only 72 officers. The problem is likely to get grave by the end of the year when a good number of officers shall retire. The state has a strength of 137 IAS officers, 75 are direct recruitment posts while as 62 are promotion posts. The Chief Minister has taken up the matter with the central authorities and has sought repatriation of the officers immediately. To compensate the shortage, the officers are presently holding additional charge of two to three departments which has affected governance. With the government having banned reemployment and extension, the retiring officers cannot stay there after their retirement. Five officers have retired till March and nine more will assume super annunciation by the end of this year. They include Abdul Majid Ganai (April 30), Shafat Noor Barlas (May 31) Muhammad Yusuf Dar (May 31), Madhav Lal (June 30), T K Sharma (Sep 30) Khursheed Ahmad Ganai (October 31), Muhammad Sharif Sood (Oct 31) Mohammad Iqbal Khanday (November 30) and Sonali Kumar (November 30). |
