LC berths: Constitutional norms being thrown to winds by BJP | Ajatshatru's 'parachuted' entry on anvil | | Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 6: In what can be seen as fresh dimension to already hot and hugely debated issue of nominations to be made by BJP for the Upper House, Ajatshatru Singh's name has given impetus to controversies already over probable names for consideration by the party leadership. BJP which is the alliance partner in PDP led coalition is also throwing constitutional norms which are required to be kept in mind in making nominations to the Upper House this time. Sources said the name of Ajatshatru Singh , a known name in political circles who until last year was a 'leader' of National Conference , the then ruling party, is being seriously considered as one of the names to be forwarded to Governor for filling up nominations against seats that have fallen vacant in the Legislative Council. Singh quit NC and in no time joined BJP before Assembly elections in December. However, his name has stirred up already restive mood within the party over a couple of names who may find place in the Upper House after formal nod by the Governor NN Vohra. This is being seen as leadership brazenly and deliberately ignoring the old timers who have been waiting for such opportunities for a long time sources said adding that if Singh's name gets through as a final choice, the step shall send wrong message among workers and committed cadres who are already annoyed over a couple of names in circulation. Sources further said that while this time the nominations have to necessarily made from certain classes and fields envisaged under the constitution, the leadership is not adhering to those requirements and in a way violating the norms as the names in circulation and under serious consideration neither fall under any category nor do fit in the category of weaker sections which is again mandated this time for at least two people. Two names it is pertinent to mention are those of ex MLA Ashok Khajuria and party vice president Ramesh Arora besides one Surinder Ambardar whose name is being as a backdoor entry pushed by corridors of RSS. Sources further said what has angered a section within the party is the strong probability of one name from weaker section category being dropped to accommodate and adjust Ajat Shatru Singh on account of his high profile political clout and influence. Until a day back the name to be seen as final choice under this category was that of Bansilal Bharti. However, the move is being resisted and opposed vehemently, though in closed doors by a couple of senior leaders, sources said adding that this opposition will not matter if the clout manages things through pressure and influence in high level political corridors. But the question at the ground level that may have implications later is that why BJP leader shall yield to such influence and what is the real compulsion in making such 'parachuted' entries. |
