Veterans explore options, Omar's close aides spend time with rivals | NC top brass fails to mend its ways even after losing power | | Fazal Khan Early Times Report srinagar, Apr 6: National Conference after losing power is grappling with number of issues and its working president Omar Abdullah is finding it hard to keep his flock together. Sources told Early Times close aides of the former Chief Minister and NC veterans are looking towards greener pastures and want to say goodbye to NC. "Most NC leaders believe that party's future is bleak and a few close confidants of Omar these days are spending lot of time with the people from rival camps," they added. An insider claimed that despite NC facing a humiliating defeat in the 2014 assembly elections, party leadership seems to have not learnt any lessons. "It has been more than four months since the day NC lost the polls but till date nothing has been done to carry out introspection what led to the party's defeat in the polls," he added. The insider said that party leaders have failed to mend their ways and are still continuing with the same practice of avoiding the NC workers. "It seems NC leaders after losing power have got disillusioned and are not showing any interest in party affairs," he added. Sources said that many grass root NC workers have already shifted their loyalties due to the "indifferent attitude" of the NC leaders. "Since the day PDP and BJP have formed the new government in JK many NC workers have quietly joined the PDP due to party leadership being more open to suggestions and remaining accessible to them," they added. Many top NC leaders facing defeat in the recent polls have pushed them further away from the people and they are finding it hard to rope in their supporters. "A top NC leader, who had to bite the dust in 2014 assembly polls, recently organized a meeting in his house to ascertain the reasons for his defeat. Despite the leader inviting his supporters over lunch and preparing Wazwan, a very few people attended the luncheon meeting," said a source. "When he (NC leader) was in power he had no time to meet the people who had voted for him. Whenever we tried meeting him (NC leader) he avoided us. Now he is trying to lure us by organizing Wazwan. Not to attend the party hosted by him (NC leader) was our collective decision as we did not vote for him," said a NC worker. Sources said that a few of the NC veterans have suggested that Omar Abdullah should give a chance to seniors to handle the party affairs and allow them to rejuvenate the party as most NC workers and leaders are unhappy with the juniors holding the top party posts. "Only one senior leader Ali Muhammad Sagar was made the General Secretary rest all juniors are holding top posts. Most NC workers are not compatible with the party leaders and they have been yearning for a change for a long time but Omar is in no mood to annoy his close aides and he has ignored the suggestions of the veterans,' sources added. They said, most NC leaders are fed up with the dictatorial attitude of the party top brass and they are contemplating to either join some other political party or launch a party on their own. |
