J&K spends Rs 120 crore annually on security of protected persons | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Apr 10: Jammu and Kashmir government is providing security to 1278 Protected Persons (PPs) in the shape of PSOs, residential guards, vehicles and hotel accommodation. This information was given by Minister for Hajj and Auqaf, Abdul Rehman Veeri on behalf of Chief Minister while replying to a question by Jugal Kishore in LC here today. Minister said monthly expenditure on account of security of these protected persons in Rs. 10 crore per month (approx) which includes salary of PSOs , Fuel, Hotel, Accommodation and Residential Guard etc. This is around Rs.120 crore annually, which the government spends on the security of the protected persons. Minister further said that security wing of the state police provides security cover to the Protected Persons as per instructions/directions contained in yellow book on the basis of threat perception assessed through CID and is also position based. State Level Security Review Coordination Committee (SRCC) meets periodically to review the categorisation of the Protected Persons as per the guidelines of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs laid down in the yellow book, he added. Supplementaries were also raised by Ghulam Nabi Monga, Naresh Gupta, Sufi Yousuf and Vibodh Gupta. Meanwhile, Minister of State for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control Abdul Majid Paddar said that the water supply to Sopore town has improved since 2014, however disruption to water supply was caused during floods of September, 2014 and due to heavy rain/snow in months of February and March 2015, adding that the 12 Km raw water gravity main has been laid from source at Shranz Babareshi to Filtration Plant at Shrakwara. The Minister while replying to a question by Qaiser Jamsheed Lone in the Legislative Council today said that during floods and in heavy rain pipes got disjointed and washed away at several spots however, restoration work was taken up on war footing and to ensure people do not face scarcity of water, the water tankers were pressed in service in adequate numbers. Minister said that at the present the water supply position in Nageen Bagh-B colony is satisfactory and during disruption period, adequate tankers are being provided. While intervening, the Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs and Relief & Rehabilitation, Syed Basharat Bukhari said that the Urban Development Water Supply Scheme in the said area is under process, one portion of which has been completed. He said as soon as it is completed the water supply in the area will improve. 29 candidates have been engaged as lecturers/teaching assistants/librarians/PTI on academic arrangement basis against the vacant posts by debit to Pool Funds of Government Degree College Sumbal to carry out the teaching of students through the Nodal Principal Kashmir Division. Minister for School Education Naeem Akhtar said besides, 04 candidates have been engaged on need basis by the College Development Committee on usual terms and conditions. |
