PCC revamp: Party retains anti-Hindu image in Doda

Jammu, April 10: Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) has once again displayed its biasness against the Hindus in Doda district as members from the community have got negligible representation in the recently reconstituted PCC.
One of the major factors in Congress' massive downslide in the state in Lok Sabha as well as Assembly elections in Jammu region in 2014 was its alleged anti-Hindu image.
The verdict of Hindu community against the Congress in Jammu province during the 2014 polls resulted in worst ever debacle of grand old party of the country. It scored a zero out of two Lok Sabha constituencies while it managed to win only five Assembly seats out of total 37 segments of the region in the Assembly elections.
The five seats, which Congress bagged in Jammu region, are dominated by majority Muslim community, and candidates who won for the party are also Muslims. It means that the Congress has no representation from Hindu community in the Legislative Assembly.
It is a known fact that the Hindu community in bulk voted for the BJP and completely dumped the Congress to give the party shock twin defeats within a span of seven months.
The turning away of the Hindu community, which predominately resides in Jammu province, from the Congress means that the party on which they banked upon all through these years was reduced to rubble in Jammu province particularly in erstwhile Doda district.
However, it seems the Congress doesn't take a leaf out of its massive defeat and BJP's major gains in erstwhile Doda district where the saffron party for the first time made a mark in six Assembly segments.
The BJP won four seats of Doda, Bhaderwah (present Doda district) Kishtwar (present Kishtwar district) and Ramban (present Ramban district) while Congress salvaged some pride by winning two seats of Banihal (present Ramban district) and Inderwal (present Kishtwar district) in erstwhile Doda district.
According to sources within the Congress, the state leadership is not yet ready to accept the fact that the downfall of the party in several parts of Jammu region mainly in erstwhile Doda district is due to the major alienation of Hindu votes from the party.
"The Hindu community sided with the BJP in Jammu district, Kathua district, to some extent in Rajouri district and erstwhile Doda district while they turned their backs on Congress. However, the party is still not awakened to the reality and continues to ignore the sentiments of Hindu community which is quite evident in the list of PCC members from erstwhile Doda district," the sources said.
"Only one member from erstwhile Doda district is in the PCC. Ex-MLA of Ramban Assembly constituency Ashok Kumar Dogra was chosen for the post of secretary which is lower in stature for a former legislator. Entrusting Dogra with a junior post is an insult to thousands of Congressmen from erstwhile Doda district as several juniors in the party were handed over superior positions in comparison to what Dogra got," they added.
